A group of about 40 demonstrators gathered in front of the Beaver County Courthouse Wednesday afternoon, demanding that all votes cast in Tuesday’s election be counted.
The diverse group of demonstrators chanted, “Count every vote,” while holding signs with slogans like, “Voters Decide.”
The protest was organized by Beaver County United, a multicultural organization with members of various ages, genders and races. In a profile of the group published by BeaverCountian.com in May, community organizer Dean Williams said United’s mission is to “fight for working-class families and people who have been systemically left behind.”
Some of those in the crowd on Wednesday were critical of a decision by Beaver County Commissioners not to begin counting mail-in ballots until the day after the election. One woman held a sign reading, “Poor planning on the part of commissioners has nothing to do with my vote.”
